Ski Lift Mechanic
LIFT MECHANIC POSITION
(EXPERIENCED MECHANIC OR APPRENTICESHIP AVAILABLE)
The Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area Inc. and the Muskoka Ski Club are seeking a full-time year- round Ski Lift Mechanic. Reporting to the Outdoor Operations Manager, this position is responsible for carrying out regular maintenance, inspections, and routine repairs on the resort’s ski lifts. It is the responsibility of the whole department to identify any situations related to the safe and proper operation of the lifts and other equipment and to bring these to the attention of the Operations Manager. A Lift Mechanic will be a team player working closely with Lift Maintenance and all other departments. This position requires a self-starter who takes initiative and ownership of lifts, with a strong work ethic to help achieve a high standard of safety and reliability. We offer competitive industry wages. An hourly wage will be determined based on previous experience and qualifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform scheduled maintenance, inspection, and repairs on the resort’s lift system
- Maintain a high level of safety on the job, and for other staff and guests
- Provide a high level of professionalism and courtesy to ski area guests
- Contribute to the long-term reliability of the lifts and their components
- Complete accurate and consistent record keeping in an efficient and timely manner
- Promote effective communication between Lift Maintenance and other departments
- Train lift operators on safe operation of lifts
- Knowledge of lift regulations, Ontario Elevating Devices Act, and National Z98 Code
- Read, understand, and implement company policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned including but not limited to snowmaking, mechanical work on rolling stock, light electrical, light carpentry
- Shifts will be mid-week, weekends, and evenings on a rotating basis – must be flexible to work long hours during peak times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid TSSA Certification SLM A or B.
- Highly mechanically inclined – with ability to identify mechanical problems, replace/repair parts on lifts.
- Current working knowledge of Health and Safety code.
- WHMIS training.
- Able and willing to work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Able and willing to climb lift towers and work above ground.
Snowmaker
Reporting to the Outdoor Operations manager, the Snowmaker is a seasonal position from mid-November to mid-January. The position is paid on an hourly basis and evening night shifts can be expected. This is an outside position that requires working in cooler temperatures and long hours. The Snowmaker works with Outdoor Operations Staff, including Groomers and Lift Maintenance Supervisors. Setting up snowmaking equipment, monitoring of snow production and water & air pressures are frequent requirements of this position.
The major job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Make snow in predetermined locations
- Safe operation of snowmobiles, machines and snowmaking equipment
- Shut down and drainage of guns, hoses and main lines
- Use proper transportation routes
- Compressor startup and shut down
- Repair of snowmaking equipment
Ski Lift Operator
The Lift Operator position is a full-time and or part-time seasonal position working on days, evenings, weekends and holidays during the Ski Season. The position is paid on an hourly basis and is available in a part-time or full-time seasonal position. This position reports to the Outdoor Operation Manager and or the Lift Maintenance Supervisor.
The major job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Load members and guests onto the lift in a safe, friendly and efficient manner.
- Ensure safety is respected by all guests when loading and riding lifts.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area.
- Maintain an orderly and fair flow through our line system.
- Ensure that all skiers and snowboarders are wearing a lift ticket or season pass.
- Be friendly, courteous, and informative to all guests.
Terrain Park Attendant
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide superior service to our customers.
- Act well and represent the ski club both in the chalet and on the hill at all times.
- Follow proper Park Etiquette Guidelines at all times while riding in the Park.
- Interact with the guests and respond to all guests in a courteous, efficient manner.
- Assist with all daily needs of the Terrain Park department.
- Contribute feedback on terrain park design, layout, fabrication, and maintenance.
- Inspect all terrain park features through patrolling and testing.
- Responsible for daily opening and closing procedures.
- Responsible for maintenance and safety of all-terrain park features, signs, promotional items, boundaries, pods, and resort ropes.
- Oversee and maintain the safe operation of the Terrain Parks. Identify and take action to resolve any hazards and obstacles for guest and employee safety.
- Provide documentation on daily inspection logs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to all safety policies, procedures and legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Skiing/Snowboarding experience necessary: must be able to test features by doing 50/50s or Ski Slides on boxes, rails, and straight airing jumps safely.
- Professional, energetic and dependable. Won’t miss a shift.
- Must be able to reason and react with quick and thoughtful judgment while remaining calm under pressure.
