Program Description
Learn the skills and tactics needed to become a ski and snowboard instructor with our professional training staff.
Take part in training sessions that will help you improve your skiing and/or snowboarding skills and learn the teaching and class management skills necessary to pass your level 1 CSIA (ski) or CASI (snowboarding) certifications.
Pre-season training sessions start in early December. Regular in-season training sessions will be scheduled on Saturday and/ or Sunday mornings during our 8-week camps.
Throughout the Jr. Instructor program, you will also gain hands-on experience volunteering with ski and snowboard lessons. Working with experienced instructors and their students you will practice assisting students and managing the class. We will have volunteer opportunities available during our holiday camps (Camp 1 -December 27th-30th, Camp 2 – January 3rd-6th), as part of our 8-week programs starting Saturday, January 7th and Sunday, January 8th, and during March Break Camps.
We ask for at a minimum a commitment to one of the holiday camps and either Saturdays or Sundays during the 8-week programs (please note that training will be scheduled for Saturday mornings).
Training progression
During our holiday camps, Jr. Instructors will develop their skiing skills while skiing along with our Intermediate/Advanced level groups while assisting with the group’s class management.
Throughout our 8-week programs, Jr. Instructors are welcome to attend morning staff training sessions each weekend morning at 8:00 before heading out for a training session with our ski and snowboard instructor trainers. During the morning training sessions, we will work on ski improvement and teaching skills.
Following the training sessions, Jr. Instructors will have the opportunity to immediately put their new skills into practice while assisting instructors with groups of various ability levels. Each afternoon will give you another extended opportunity to put your teaching skills into practice with a second group.
Working Towards Certification
Throughout the season we will work to build the skills needed to pass your level 1 CSIA or CASI certification.
We will be looking at the possibility of hosting level 1 courses just for our Jr. Instructors when you reach course age (14 for skiing, 15 for snowboarding).
Volunteer Hours
Volunteer hours may be used towards high school volunteer hour requirements. In exchange for your volunteer hours, you will receive training sessions, and staff tickets for the days you are volunteering and/or training. Truly dedicated junior instructors may even earn a staff pass.
