April 2, 2021
Hi All,
It is with great regret that we need to inform everyone that the Ontario Government has decided to close down ski hills once again effective Saturday, April 3rd at 12:01 am. Yesterday at the time of Premier Ford’s announcement, golf courses, parks and ski hills were not listed as being able to open in the newly invented “Emergency Break” or “Shutdown” category of restrictions. At approximately 2:30, this was changed and golf courses & driving ranges, parks and ski hills were added in as “Outdoor recreational amenities that may open”. All websites for the Ontario Government noted that ski hills were able to remain open until sometime after 5:00 pm on April 1 when ski hills were removed from this list.
There has been no reasoning provided as to why ski hills are being closed and we were completely shocked to discover this information after we had informed our Members and Guests that we were going to be open through the Easter weekend. The Ontario Government has not reached out to ski hills to inform us of their change or mistake in information on April 1. The change was inadvertently discovered late April 1 to the shock and dismay of us all.
As a result of this decision by the Ontario Government, Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area is forced to close for the season after operating on Friday, April 2nd, 2021. We are truly sorry for the confusion about being open on Saturday and Sunday of this weekend. We have been forced to close by the Ontario Government.
It is hoped that you can come out today Friday, April 2nd to enjoy the great conditions that our Team has been able to produce through extremely warm weather. We would like to thank everyone that came out to play this season. It has been a challenging season and we appreciate everyone respecting the restrictions put in place to make skiing and snowboarding a safe winter recreational amenity.
May the 2021/22 winter season bring great snow and normal operating procedures.
