Snowschool Director

Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated  Snowschool Director to lead our Snowschool team and programs.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager, the Snowschool Director is responsible for the overall leadership and operation of the Snowschool, including:

  • Leading and developing a team of seasonal instructors.
  • Recruiting, training, scheduling and coaching staff.
  • Overseeing multi-week programs, private lessons, school groups, camps and other Snowschool programming.
  • Developing programs and opportunities to grow participation and revenue.
  • Managing the Snowschool budget and monitoring financial performance.
  • Ensuring a consistently high standard of guest service, program quality and safety.
  • Working closely with the Snowschool Admin Assistant and other Hidden Valley departments.
  • Supporting staff development and remaining active on snow through instruction and training.

What We’re Looking For

  • Current CSIA or CASI Level 2 certification or higher; Level 3 is an asset.
  • Current CSIA course conductor and/or CASI evaluator preferred and/or current CASI/CSIA trainer certification. Dual certification CASI/CSIA an asset.
  • Experience in a Snowschool, ski/snowboard instruction or related leadership environment.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience
  • Strong knowledge of ski and snowboard instruction and instructor development.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to recruit, motivate and develop seasonal staff.
  • Familiarity and comfort with online scheduling systems, e-commerce platforms, and Google Workspace an asset.
  • Strong customer service skills and sound judgment.
  • Comfortable working with budgets, scheduling and administrative systems.

We’re looking for someone who is positive, approachable, organized and passionate about developing people and creating great guest experiences.

Working Conditions
This is a hands-on leadership position requiring significant time outdoors during the winter season as well as significant time working in an office environment, the ideal candidate will be comfortable shifting between indoor and outdoor environments as needed by the demands of the job. The successful candidate must be comfortable skiing or snowboarding for extended periods and working in winter conditions.

The position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays during the ski season.

Compensation & Position Details
Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus performance-based bonus and applicable staff benefits and privileges.

Snowschool Employment

Are you enthusiastic, hardworking, and reliable? We are recruiting certified ski and snowboard instructors and volunteer junior instructors to provide guests of all ages and abilities with fun, engaging experiences sliding on snow. Our goal is to create skiers and snowboarders who are active for life.

As a snow school professional, you:

  • have the desire to share your love of skiing and snowboarding with our guests,
  • have outstanding customer service skills,
  • have an ongoing desire to learn and grow as a professional,
  • work to create a fun and safe environment for those in your care,
  • and bring a solid understanding of how to ski and/or snowboard.

Become a Certified Instructor! 

All of our instructors and coaches are certified by one or more of Canada’s national training bodies. For you to become an instructor you must complete your Level 1 CSIA Ski, or Level 1 CASI Snowboard certification. The CSIA level one is for intermediate or higher level skiers aged 14 years or older seeking to work as a ski professional. The CASI level one is for intermediate or higher level snowboarders aged 14 years or older seeking to work as a snowboard professional.

Junior Instructors

Are you 12, 13 or 14 years old and interested in training to become a certified Ski or Snowboard professional? Do you love working with kids? We may have just the volunteer position for you.

Junior Instructors help our certified instructors work with groups of students. They provide assistance to the instructors and students as required, and learn the craft of teaching snowsports.

Training sessions to improve your riding and teaching skills are an important element of the junior instructor program.

This position qualifies for High School volunteer hours and community service hours.

COACHING OPPORTUNITIES WITH THE MUSKOKA SKI CLUB

We currently seek EL and DL-trained/certified coaches to fill vacancies in our competitive race programs.  Coaching in the member-based program is best suited for a positive, caring individual with strong communication and planning skills and the ability to be part of a team.  Being able to react and adapt is just part of this fun and fast-paced environment.  Candidates should understand current CSIA or CSIA guideline. Our program focuses on ski development from U8-U18 following the LTAD.

We encourage and support ongoing training including weekly sessions and ongoing professional development.

Applicants must be available for training, Christmas Camp, and a 9-week program.  Additional opportunities may be available during the week and pre/postseason.

Coaches work closely with and report to the Head Coach.
